What are they like, what TV shows do they watch? What benefits are they looking for in your product? How would they spend a Sunday afternoon?<\/li>\n<li><strong>What do they care about?<\/strong> Think of what drags them out bed on a cold Monday morning in depths of winter \u2013 those things that light the fire under them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What are they reading right now? <\/strong>Take a look at your competitors, and the articles and content they share \u2013 is there anything in there that your audience are interested in?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are some great free apps that can do a big chunk of this for you \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.shareasimage.com\/free-social-media-tools\/\">read about those here<\/a> \u2013 but you can also do it organically too, through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Surveys<\/li>\n<li>Testing (more on that next)<\/li>\n<li>Asking questions<\/li>\n<li>BuzzSumo research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the more you take the organic approach, the deeper and more meaningful the relationships with your audience become too.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>#3: They Measure Everything (And Move With The Times)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Successful social media marketers get into the habit of tracking, testing and measuring well\u2026everything.<\/p>\n<p>From how many people click a tweet, to what colours work well, and the character counts that get the most interaction.<\/p>\n<p>You see, here\u2019s the thing about using <em>general<\/em> social media stats:<\/p>\n<p><strong>They don\u2019t fit your audience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because your audience is the coming together of lots of different audiences, with their own likes and dislikes. Leaving you with a unique, wonderful audience to connect with.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s great to use general data as a starting point \u2013 for example, the stat that <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bufferapp.com\/10-new-twitter-stats-twitter-statistics-to-help-you-reach-your-followers\">tweets with less than 100 characters have the most engagement<\/a> \u2013 it\u2019s should only ever be used as a guideline<\/p>\n<p>Like, you could measure your interaction on tweets with 100 characters over a week.<\/p>\n<p>Then you could change it to 110 characters, and test that for a week.<\/p>\n<p>And do that in either direction until you find your sweet-spot. That way you have the perfect fit for your audience.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tracking Your Social Media Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019re going to get <strong>a lot<\/strong> of varied opinions on this, but I think that testing should only be done on <strong>one thing<\/strong> at a time. Even if your doing it across multiple platforms.<\/p>\n<p>That way you can be more accurate and understanding in your approach.<\/p>\n<p>Start by choosing one of the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Headlines<\/li>\n<li>Types of image<\/li>\n<li>Content (or types of content)<\/li>\n<li>Length of update<\/li>\n<li>Articles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then measure what gets the most clicks, engagements and responses.<\/p>\n<p>Now, this is the part of the article where you\u2019d expect me to recommend some be all and end all system that will do this for you, right?<\/p>\n<p>Well this time you\u2019re not getting it.<\/p>\n<p>Because your audience, the platforms you use and the goals you\u2019re looking at are far beyond the scope of this article, so I wouldn\u2019t want to steer you wrong. Yes, you. Sat right there.<\/p>\n<p>Instead I\u2019m going to suggest you:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Choose a goal: <\/strong>Where do you want your social media strategy to take you?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Break it down: <\/strong>What do you <em>think<\/em> you need to do to get you there?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choose one element:<\/strong> And test the hell out of it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adapt:<\/strong> Make informed decisions based on your results.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>From there, the ball is in your court\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u201cExcellence Is Not An Act, But A Habit\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There you have it, <strong>three foolproof habits<\/strong> to help you take your social media marketing to the next level.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s do a quick recap:<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Make Your Relationships Meaningful:\u00a0<\/b>Focus on the people at the other end, because while there may be\u00a0<em>lots<\/em> of them for you to remember &#8211; they only have to remember you. So make sure everybody&#8217;s experience is a good, meaningful one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus On Value:\u00a0<\/strong>Value is at the heart of all marketing; and your customers &#8211; potential and existing &#8211; are crying out for it. So, give it to them. Get to know your audience, what they&#8217;re looking for &#8211; and give it to them in abundance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Track\u00a0<em>everything:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Data is your best friend. But, general data doesn&#8217;t apply directly to your audience. Use it as a starting point but then refine it as much as you can to your own audience.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you can build your day &#8211; and your strategy &#8211; around these three habits, your social media impact is going to explode.
